The City of Monroe is now accepting applications for the position of Police Officer. The purpose of this classification is to provide protection of life and property; enforcement of federal, state, and local laws; respond to emergency situations; investigation of criminal activity; intervention in criminal activity; providing crime prevention information and proactive patrol; and assignment to specialized units within the department including Support Services, Housing Authority, School Resource Officer, Special Operations Unit, or others. Work is performed according to established policies and procedures; therefore, a Police Officer must be able to exercise sound judgment, especially in emergency situations. Work requires tactful, conscientiousness, effective and efficient performance of duties with minimum supervision. Work contains a substantial element of personal risk. The Police Officer may be required to use force to affect an arrest, protect him or herself, or protect others. The use of force may include the use of physical force up to and including the use of deadly force. The Police Officer may be subjected to verbal and physical abuse and investigate or view psychologically disturbing images such as child pornography, children-involved fatalities, autopsies, and other death-related scenes.
Qualified applicants must:
• Have a high school diploma or GED-Associates degree or equivalent preferred.
• Have the ability to successfully complete Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training mandated training; ability to obtain and maintain P.O.S.T. Certification; ability to meet and maintain compliance with present and future Georgia P.O.S.T. and City of Monroe standards for employment as a Police Officer. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
• Have No convictions of a felony or sufficient misdemeanors to establish a pattern of disregard for the law; no convictions for felony or misdemeanor while employed; honorable discharge from the US Military; successful completion of department’s applicant selection process
• Ability to read, understand, and abide by City of Monroe and City of Monroe Police Department’s Personnel Policy and Standard Operating Procedures or their functional equivalent
• Must be at least 21 years of age.

Salary range for this position is from $32,947 to $49,420.
Actual starting salary within this range is dependent upon the applicant’s qualifications.
